Manage and evolve the company’s news, marketing and design strategy for its print products (newspapers, magazines, niche publications.) Oversee the content editing and design group. NASHVILLE | January 2011 to January 2013


Collaborated on the creation of a consolidated design and editing hub for Gannett’s daily newspapers, magazines and books. Managed the Nashville studio and applied consistent content, visual and ethical standards, while creating a collaborative, fun, client-centric atmosphere. Maintain a high level of quality, efficiency and individuality for every product.

Management of the studio included much more than basic operations, personnel and budgets:

> Created a structure to handle design and editing for 12 daily and 120 non-daily products.
> Recruited and maintained a diverse staff of 70.
> Collaborated on and executed standards and standard operating procedures.
> Provided strong customer service and relations with clients, including site visits.
> Created contingencies for publishing in the event of a major disaster.
> Designed a creative and collaborative workspace.
> Set up a training and enrichment program for staff.
> Worked with corporate and vendor teams to set up new technology and transition clients to the studio.
> Provided strategic redesign of client products to meet targeted demographics, goals and merge print product with digital products.
> Consulted on brand and image goals.
> Mentored editors and designers.

Assistant Managing Editor, Digital Director, Creative Director

Managed/mentored the graphics and design staffs. Worked hands on designing for print and web.

Responsible for daily and long-term execution and production of print and online projects ranging from:

> Glossy magazines and books to daily newsprint
> Basic interactive flash graphics to website design
> Broadcast-ready story package to simple iMovie/audio editing.

Also handled: The production workflow, design and graphics staffing and scheduling of print, and interactive products for The Tennessean and Middle Tennessee Community Newspapers. Managed newshole and space budgets. Liaison with advertising, pre-press, press, circulation and marketing.

Managed 95-person creative staff. Responsible for the daily and long-term planning and production ?of print products, including photography, design, graphics and copy editing.
